What is Sarvashtakavarga in Vedic Astrology?

Sarvashtakavarga is the big picture of Ashtakavarga. Where Bhinnashtakavarga tells you how strong a single planet is in each sign, Sarvashtakavarga adds all seven planets together to give you one composite score per house. Think of it as a strength rating for each area of your life — career, marriage, wealth, health. The score never lies: 12 houses, 337 total Bindus, always.

How to Read Your SAV House Scores

Your SAV chart is a strength map of your life. Each of the 12 houses corresponds to a distinct life domain. The score in each house tells you how well that domain is supported by the collective planetary energy in your chart.

  • <25
Area of FrictionBelow 25 Bindus — Challenging zone. Patience, remedies, and mindfulness are recommended.
  • 25-29
Average Yield25 to 29 Bindus — Average zone. Outcomes depend heavily on sustained effort.
  • 30+
Highly Auspicious30+ Bindus — Strong foundation. Planets transiting here deliver their best results.

Sarvashtakavarga Calculator — Frequently Asked Questions

What is Sarvashtakavarga in Vedic Astrology?
Sarvashtakavarga (SAV) is the aggregate layer of the Ashtakavarga system. It adds together the individual Bhinnashtakavarga scores of all 7 planets and the Ascendant across each of the 12 Rashis (zodiac signs). The result is a single number per sign — ranging typically from 20 to 40 — that tells you how fortified that sign is overall. The mathematical invariant is that all 12 SAV scores always sum to exactly 337.
How do I calculate my Sarvashtakavarga score?
You do not need to calculate it manually. Enter your date of birth, time of birth, and birth city in this calculator. The engine applies the full Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra (BPHS) rules — 337 Bindus distributed across 12 signs based on the angular relationships of all 8 contributors (Sun, Moon, Mars, Mercury, Jupiter, Venus, Saturn, Ascendant). The tool generates your complete SAV chart instantly.
Why does the total always equal 337?
This is a mathematical invariant built into the Ashtakavarga system. Each of the 8 contributors (7 planets + Ascendant) has a fixed total number of Bindus they can award. When you sum all 8 contributor totals and distribute them across all 12 signs, the aggregate SAV total always equals 337 regardless of planetary positions. If a chart shows any other total, there is a calculation error.
Which houses are considered strong in Sarvashtakavarga?
A sign with 30 or more Bindus is considered strong (Shubha zone) — planets transiting through such signs deliver their best results. Scores between 25 and 29 are average — outcomes depend heavily on karma and effort. Scores below 25 indicate a weaker zone where challenges surface and patience or remedies are recommended. The classical threshold is 28 as the average, since 337 ÷ 12 ≈ 28.08.
How does Sarvashtakavarga predict Saturn transit results?
When Saturn transits a sign, check that sign's SAV score in your chart. If Saturn is moving through a sign with 32+ SAV Bindus, even the notoriously heavy Saturn transit yields positive outcomes — career advancement, stability, and disciplined growth. If the SAV score is below 25, Saturn's transit demands extra caution and Shani-related remedies. This is the classical method prescribed in BPHS for Gochar (transit) evaluation.
What remedies are recommended for a weak Sarvashtakavarga house?
Classical remedies are linked to the planetary rulers of weak signs and the Bhava (house) concerned. General Ashtakavarga remedies include Navagraha Stotra recitation, sesame (til) daan on Saturdays for Saturn-related weakness, fasting on Tuesdays for Mars-related weak houses, and gem therapy (only after consulting a qualified jyotishi). The aim is not to fight fate but to build inner resilience during challenging Gochar periods.
What is the difference between Sarvashtakavarga and Bhinnashtakavarga?
Bhinnashtakavarga (BAV) shows the individual strength of a single planet across all 12 signs — useful for predicting the specific results of that planet's transit in each sign. Sarvashtakavarga (SAV) aggregates all 7 BAV tables into one composite score per sign — useful for assessing the overall strength of each house/sign as a living area. SAV answers 'Is this house strong overall?' while BAV answers 'How strong is Jupiter (or Saturn) specifically in this sign?'
Can Sarvashtakavarga predict marriage and career timings?
Yes — this is one of its most practical uses. For marriage timing, check the SAV score of the 7th house. When Jupiter or Venus transits a sign with a high SAV score that overlaps the 7th house, marriage opportunities become highly favourable. For career, focus on the 10th house SAV score. When Saturn transits a strong 10th house sign (30+), this typically correlates with major career milestones — promotions, recognition, or business expansion.
