What is Tripushkar Yoga?
Similar to its two-fold sibling, Tripushkar causes the karma to repeat three times. Formed by the conjunction of specific tithis (3, 8, 13) known as Jaya tithis or naturally victorious lunar days, combined with a particular set of nakshatras, it holds immense power. Householders consult the panchang for this specific timing to execute large compounding investments. The injunction from the tradition is absolute: avoid any action that brings sorrow or financial loss, as the karmic imprint forces the event to recur thrice.
What to do
- • Significant, life-altering financial investments
- • Starting a long-term business or factory
- • Acquiring gold bullion or agricultural land
- • Performing massive acts of charity or Anna Daan (food donation)
What to avoid
- • Borrowing money under any circumstance
- • Pledging or mortgaging property
- • Visiting hospitals or undertaking medical operations if avoidable
- • Initiating quarrels or separations
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the exact nakshatra list for Tripushkar?
The tradition defines the active nakshatras as Krittika, Punarvasu, Vishakha, Uttara Ashadha, Purva Bhadrapada, Purva Phalguni, Uttara Phalguni, and Hasta when combined with the 3rd, 8th, or 13th tithi of either paksha.
How is Tripushkar different from Dwipushkar?
The principle is the same — your actions carry forward — but the magnitude differs. Dwipushkar doubles, Tripushkar triples. They also use entirely different sets of tithis and nakshatras. Dwipushkar uses tithis 2, 7, 12 with Mrigashirsha/Chitra/Dhanishta. Tripushkar uses tithis 3, 8, 13 with a broader set of eight nakshatras.
Why are the tithis 3, 8, and 13 called Jaya tithis?
In the panchang system, tithis are grouped by nature. The 3rd, 8th, and 13th tithis of each paksha are classified as Jaya (victorious) tithis by the Muhurta Chintamani. They carry an inherent energy of triumph and forward momentum, which is why Tripushkar — built on these tithis — carries such powerful repeating energy.
Can I visit a sick person during Tripushkar Yoga?
The tradition strongly discourages it. The tripling effect means that the energy of illness and suffering encountered during the visit may recur in the visitor's life. If a hospital visit is unavoidable, do not commence the journey during the active yoga window — go before or after.
Is Tripushkar Yoga good for charity and donations?
Exceptional. Anna Daan (food donation), Vidya Daan (donating books or funding education), and Vastra Daan (clothing donation) performed during Tripushkar return threefold merit to the giver. This is why mandirs and dharamshalas often schedule large-scale food drives around Tripushkar dates.
