Graha Sthiti (Planetary Positions) is a fundamental aspect of Vedic astrology that shows the current location of planets — their Rashi, Nakshatra, and precise degree — in the zodiac. This information is essential for Kundali analysis, daily predictions, and Muhurat determination. Knowing which Rashi and Nakshatra each planet occupies reveals its influence on various aspects of life.
Vedic astrology tracks nine planets (Navagraha): Sun, Moon, Mars, Mercury, Jupiter, Venus, Saturn, Rahu, and Ketu. Rahu and Ketu are shadow planets representing lunar-solar eclipse points. Each planet governs specific aspects of life.
The 12 Rashis (Aries to Pisces) and 27 Nakshatras (Ashwini to Revati) form the foundation of astrological calculations. Each Rashi spans 30°, and each Nakshatra covers 13°20'. A planet's Rashi and Nakshatra position defines its influence.
When a planet appears to move backward, it's called retrograde (Vakri). Retrograde planets have intensified effects and often bring delays, reconsideration, or internal transformation. All planets except Sun and Moon can go retrograde.
When a planet is too close to the Sun, it becomes combust (Asta). Combust planets are considered weakened. Each planet has different combustion ranges - Venus 10°, Mercury 14°, Mars 17°, Jupiter 11°, Saturn 15°.
