- How the time stands
- The hour is the household's own: a rasi chart from Nehru's family records and a letter from the Prime Minister's Secretary dated 19 June 1962 both give 11:30 p.m., as B. V. Raman, who received them, reports in Notable Horoscopes. It is A, not AA, because we read neither document, only Raman's account of them, and no birth register or horoscope cast at the birth was seen.
- About the clock
- India had no standard time for civil use in 1889 (Indian Standard Time dates from 1906) and Raman, who received the time, gives the chart in local mean time, so the offset is the city's longitude times 4 minutes; zoneinfo's Asia/Kolkata shows Madras Mean Time (UTC+5:21:10) for 1889, which was the railway time and is not known to be the clock the household used.
Other times printed elsewhere
- 23:03 · B. V. Raman, Notable Horoscopes No. 59, p. 317, printed as '11-3 p.m. (L.M.T.)' in the birth details. By our calculation the printed lagna (114 degrees 25 minutes) and Moon (109 degrees 20 minutes) on his 20 degrees 52 minutes ayanamsa fit 23:03 LMT, so the chart was cast for it; the book gives no basis, and it matches neither his own 11:33 rectification nor the family's 11:30 in the footnote on the same page.
- 23:33 · B. V. Raman's rectification from Nehru's life events, published in The Astrological Magazine, October 1942, as he reports in Notable Horoscopes, p. 317 (the magazine issue was not seen); Raman himself treats the later family time of 11:30 as confirming it.
- 23:27 · AstroSage, which enters 23:30 at UTC+5:30 (Indian Standard Time) and cites Kundli Sangraha by Bhat (an astrology collection, not seen); 23:30 IST equals 23:27:23 Allahabad local mean time. It is probably the family's 11:30 read in a clock that did not exist in 1889.
- 23:36 · Astrotheme, which shows 11:30 PM, rates it A ('from memory or autobiography', contributor Lois Rodden), cites Raman's Notable Horoscopes and the secretary's letter of June 1962, and reads the time as Madras time (UTC+5:21:10), equal to 23:36 LMT.
