- How the time stands
- The hour is the Tagore family's own: Tagore copied his horoscope's notation into the first manuscript of Jibansmriti, and a horoscope notebook compiled by his nephew Balendranath gives the English-clock time 2-38-37, both quoted by Prasanta Kumar Pal. It is A, not AA, because the horoscope cast at the birth was lost and replaced in 1879, the clock line is in a second, unnamed hand, and we read both documents only as Pal quotes them.
- About the clock
- India had no standard time in 1861 and Calcutta kept its own mean solar time, so the offset is the house's longitude times 4 minutes; zoneinfo's Asia/Kolkata gives Howrah Mean Time (UTC+5:53:20) for 1861, the same local clock to within 6 seconds.
Other times printed elsewhere
- 02:28:37 · A later, reset printing of Pal's Rabijibani vol. 1 (scan at the Internet Archive, item 20230316_20230316_1606) prints 2 h 28 min 37 s in the running text; the same page still quotes the notebook as 2-38-37 and the older printing reads 2 h 38 min, so this is a misprint.
