Punya Saham (also called the "Part of Fortune" or "Lot of Fortune") is the single most important Arabic Lot in Tajika Jyotish. It reveals which house in your annual chart receives the most concentrated divine support — the axis where luck, grace, and natural ease flow most freely.

Think of it as a spotlight: whichever house Punya Saham falls in gets extra illumination that year. A strong Punya Saham in the 10th house? Career gets divine wind. In the 7th? Relationships flow naturally. Enter your details below and find your Fortune Point for any year.

What is Punya Saham?

Punya Saham is calculated as: Ascendant + Moon – Sun (for day births) or Ascendant + Sun – Moon (for night births). This formula captures the angular relationship between the two luminaries (Sun and Moon) and projects it onto the rising degree.

The resulting degree falls in a specific sign and house, and the lord of that sign becomes the "Saham lord." The dignity of this lord — whether exalted, in own sign, or debilitated — determines the verdict: strong, moderate, or weak.

In practical terms, Punya Saham tells you where your year's luckiest energy concentrates. It doesn't guarantee success, but it identifies the life area where effort meets less resistance and opportunities appear more naturally.

Source: Tajika Neelakanthi (Chapter on Sahams), Varshaphal Pradeep — classical Tajika texts on annual horoscopy.

Everyone runs their Varshaphal. The pandit shows you planets, dashas, transits — a wall of data. But almost nobody checks the single most revealing point in the annual chart: where their Fortune concentrates.

Punya Saham answers one question your birth chart cannot: in THIS specific year, which part of your life gets the easiest path? Career? Marriage? Education? The answer changes every year. That's the whole point.

What Your Punya Saham Verdict Means

Strong

Your Punya Saham lord is in excellent dignity (exalted or own sign) and well-placed. The house where Punya falls is your year's strongest axis — expect natural ease, timely opportunities, and situations that resolve in your favour with less effort than usual. This is the year to act on plans you've been holding back. The universe is not guaranteeing success, but it's lowering the resistance on this particular front.

Moderate

Your Punya Saham lord is in a friendly or neutral sign. Fortune is present but not at peak strength. The house where Punya falls still benefits, but you may need to actively pursue opportunities rather than having them appear naturally. Think of it as having the wind behind you — but a gentle breeze, not a gale. Consistency and follow-through matter more than waiting for lucky breaks.

Weak

Your Punya Saham lord is debilitated or in an enemy sign. This doesn't mean bad luck — it means the Fortune Point's energy is muted this year. The house still receives attention, but results may come slowly or require significantly more effort. The important insight: your strongest energy lies ELSEWHERE. Check your Karma, Rajya, or Vidya Saham — one of those may be the real powerhouse this year.

Three Pillars of Punya Saham Strength

👑Lord Dignity

The most decisive factor. If Moon rules your Punya Saham, fortune flows through emotions, intuition, and public connections. Jupiter-ruled Punya brings fortune through wisdom, teaching, and ethical decisions. Venus-ruled Punya attracts fortune through relationships and aesthetics. Saturn-ruled Punya delivers fortune slowly but durably — through discipline and persistence. The lord's dignity (exalted vs debilitated) determines whether this channel is open or blocked.

🏠House Placement

Where Punya falls determines WHAT gets fortunate. Kendras (1, 4, 7, 10) give active, visible fortune — career wins, property gains, relationship ease. Trikonas (5, 9) give intellectual and spiritual fortune. Dusthanas (6, 8, 12) don't mean bad fortune — they redirect it toward overcoming enemies (6th), unexpected gains or transformation (8th), or foreign opportunities and spiritual growth (12th). Context matters more than superstition.

📅Annual Relevance

Unlike Vivaha Saham (only matters when marriage is on the table) or Paradesa Saham (relevant only for travel years), Punya Saham matters EVERY year. It's the universal barometer. Even in a "quiet" year, knowing where your Fortune Point falls helps you direct effort intelligently — toward the area where the universe is most cooperative.

Myths vs Reality

"Strong Punya Saham = lottery luck"

Punya indicates ease, not windfall. A strong Punya in the 2nd house means financial decisions come easier — not that money falls from the sky. It reduces friction in that life area, making effort more productive.

"Weak Punya = cursed year"

A chart has 16 Sahams. Weak Punya only means the FORTUNE spotlight is dim — but Karma, Rajya, or Vidya may be blazing. Most successful years have a mix of strong and weak Sahams. The key is knowing where to focus.

"Punya Saham and Western Part of Fortune are the same"

Similar formula, different astronomical framework. Western Part of Fortune uses the tropical zodiac; Punya Saham uses the sidereal zodiac (Lahiri ayanamsha). The resulting degree can differ by ~24°, placing it in a completely different sign and house.

"Punya Saham alone decides the year's fortune"

Punya is the most important Saham, but Varshaphal includes Tajika Yogas, Muntha position, and planetary strengths. A weak Punya with strong Tajika Yogas can still deliver an excellent year. Always read the full picture.

What If Punya Saham Is Weak?

Weak Punya doesn't mean a cursed year. It means the Fortune spotlight is dim — the area of natural ease and divine support isn't shining brightly. But your chart has 16 Sahams, and several are almost certainly strong.

Check Karma Saham first — if your work energy is strong, professional productivity can compensate. Rajya Saham tells you if authority and position are supported. Vidya Saham reveals whether education and learning are this year's strength. Most people have 4-6 strong Sahams in any given year.

Punya Saham Calculator FAQs

Common questions answered

Q: What is Punya Saham in Varshaphal?

Punya Saham (Lot of Fortune) is the most important Arabic Lot in annual chart analysis. It is calculated from the Ascendant, Sun, and Moon positions, and shows where divine grace and fortune concentrate in a specific year.

Q: How is Punya Saham different for day and night births?

For day births: Ascendant + Moon – Sun. For night births: Ascendant + Sun – Moon. The reversal ensures the Saham accounts for the "sect" of the chart — whether the Sun or Moon is the dominant luminary.

Q: Which house is best for Punya Saham?

Kendras (1, 4, 7, 10) and Trikonas (1, 5, 9) are considered strongest placements. Punya Saham in the 1st house (self), 10th (career), or 9th (fortune) is particularly auspicious. Dusthana placements (6, 8, 12) indicate the Fortune energy meets resistance — but resistance is not defeat.

Q: Does Punya Saham change every year?

Yes — the Ascendant of the solar return chart (Varsha Pravesh) changes each year, so Punya Saham recalculates annually. The same person may have strong Punya one year and weak the next. This is exactly why annual chart analysis exists.

Q: Can Punya Saham predict lottery or gambling luck?

No — Punya Saham indicates the life area where natural ease and opportunities flow, not random windfall. A strong Punya in the 2nd or 11th house suggests financial opportunities, but through effort-meeting-ease, not gambling.

Q: What if my Punya Saham is weak?

A weak Punya Saham doesn't mean a bad year. It means the "Fortune spotlight" is dim in this particular year. Other Sahams may be strong — check your Rajya, Karma, or Vidya Saham for where this year's energy actually concentrates. Most people have 4-6 strong Sahams in any year.

Q: Is Punya Saham the same as Part of Fortune in Western astrology?

Similar formula, different framework. Western Part of Fortune uses the tropical zodiac; Punya Saham uses sidereal (Lahiri ayanamsha). The resulting degree can differ by ~24°, often placing it in a completely different sign and house. Different system, different interpretation.

Q: Can I check Punya Saham for multiple years?

Yes — run the calculator for different Varshaphal years and compare. Some people find their Punya is consistently strong in certain houses across years, revealing a long-term pattern in their annual charts.
