Venus is the karaka of marriage and of the 7th house itself, so Venus in the 7th house is the most argued-over placement of the set. Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra warns, Phaladeepika hedges, Saravali praises. Which reading fits you depends on your ascendant, Venus's sign and its dignity — all three computed below, free.

What Venus in the 7th house means
The 7th house is the house of the other — the spouse, the business partner, the client across the table, the rival who opposes you in the open. Venus is the kalatra karaka, the natural significator of the spouse, and in Parashara's list of house significators it is the karaka of this very house as well. So here Venus sits inside its own subject. Marriage moves to the centre of life early and stays there, attraction comes easily, and the partner is often chosen for beauty, courtesy and refinement before capability. Married life tends to be comfortable and socially visible: a well-kept home, jewellery, perfume, vehicles and pleasant company are its classical markers. Partnership reaches past marriage too — business ties, artistic collaborations and negotiated agreements suit this native better than solitary work. The placement also leaves you dependent on the climate of the relationship; when the bond is easy, most of life feels easy.
Venus has no special full aspect. Like the Sun, the Moon and Mercury it casts its one full aspect on the 7th from itself, which from the 7th returns squarely on the 1st. That single return is the signature of the placement: the house of the other looks back at the house of the self, so the partner shapes your appearance, your manners, your tastes and, in time, your temperament. Natives of this placement are often called attractive or well-groomed for exactly this reason, and marriage frequently changes how they present themselves in public. Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra also grants every planet graded partial aspects — from the 7th these reach the 2nd and 10th at three quarters, the 11th and 3rd at a half, and the 9th and 4th at a quarter — so family, speech and career all get a lighter touch. The full weight rests on the ascendant.
How much of the promise arrives depends on the sign Venus occupies, and your ascendant fixes that sign. For an Aries ascendant Venus stands in Libra, its own sign and its moolatrikona through the first fifteen degrees, ruling the 2nd and 7th, and Malavya Yoga forms — the strongest version of this placement. For a Virgo ascendant it is exalted in Pisces and rules the 2nd and 9th, and the yoga forms again; a Scorpio ascendant puts Venus in its own Taurus, ruling the 7th and 12th, with the yoga once more. For a Pisces ascendant Venus falls debilitated in Virgo while ruling the 3rd and 8th, and the placement then asks for much more care. For Capricorn and Aquarius ascendants Venus is a yogakaraka, owning a kendra and a trikona together, yet it sits in an enemy's sign — Cancer and Leo — so the promise is large but worked for. Conjunctions and the navamsha refine the rest.
House positions use the whole-sign (Rashi) chart. In the bhava-chalit chart, drawn from the exact house cusps, a Venus near a sign's edge can shift into the neighbouring 6th or 8th bhava, so check the chalit reading whenever it sits close to a boundary.
Good or bad? What decides it
Neither automatically — and here, more than anywhere, the texts themselves split. Venus in the 7th house is favourable in its own signs of Taurus and Libra, exalted in Pisces, or forming Malavya Yoga in this kendra; then Saravali's reading applies, of a beautiful spouse, wealth and a marriage free of quarrels. It is testing when Venus is debilitated in Virgo, combust close to the Sun, or pressed by Mars's heat or Rahu's excess; Saturn, Venus's own natural friend, more often delays and sobers the bond than damages it. Then Phaladeepika's warning about intrigues and the risk of loss deserves its weight. The much-quoted "karako bhava nashaya" is a later dictum of disputed origin that appears nowhere in Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra, and it counts only for a weak or afflicted Venus. Read the placement as a tendency shaped by the whole chart, not a verdict.
Marriage, the spouse and attraction under Shukra
The spouse Shukra tends to describe
Classical readings picture a partner carrying Venus's own qualities: attractive, well-mannered, fond of art, music, dress or comfort, and often from a settled or refined family. The meeting is usually described as happening in social, artistic, educational or workplace surroundings rather than through arrangement alone. In a man's chart Venus is traditionally the significator of the wife, so its seat in the house of marriage doubles the emphasis; in a woman's chart the husband is read from Jupiter and the 7th lord as well, and Venus here stands for beauty, harmony and the pleasures of married life. Comforts arriving with the spouse — a vehicle, jewellery, a pleasant house — are a repeated classical result. When Venus is afflicted, charm outruns steadiness and the choice gets made on appearance. Nothing here fixes a profession or a face; the 7th lord, the Moon and the navamsha complete the portrait.
Where the classical texts disagree
Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra, in its chapter on the results of planets in the houses, calls this native exceedingly libidinous. Phaladeepika is double-edged: a good wife and wealth, but also intrigues and the risk of loss. Saravali is plainly favourable — beautiful, happy in marriage, wealthy and free of quarrels. Three respected texts, one placement, three verdicts, and the honest course is to print the disagreement rather than pick a winner. The divergence has a reason: each text starts from a different assumption about what a significator does in its own house, and about how far dignity decides the outcome. In practice the bridge is Venus's own condition — a strong, well-aspected Venus earns Saravali's verdict, while a weak, combust or afflicted one is where Phaladeepika's caution belongs. No text supports the flat claim that this placement spoils marriage.
Desire, appetite and a Shukra dimmed by the Sun
Take the classical warning about appetite as advice on restraint, not as a moral sentence. Hunger for beauty, pleasure and company runs strong here. Well placed, Venus turns it into art, hospitality and real warmth inside the marriage; afflicted, the eye wanders and secrecy enters the bond. Combustion is the other condition to weigh. Venus never strays much more than 47 degrees from the Sun, so sitting close to it is ordinary for this planet; within ten degrees — eight when retrograde — it is called combust. Those are classical orbs handed down by the tradition, not a physical constant, and several schools work with tighter arcs. A combust Venus in this house does not cancel marriage or partnership. It turns them inward: the relationship is less displayed, more private, and often stands behind the native's own standing. The pleasure is reduced and hidden, not removed.
By ascendant: your row
The sign Venus stands in here, and the houses it rules, change with your ascendant. Your row is highlighted. The 7th is a kendra, so the last column marks the ascendants where Malavya Yoga forms.
These are general tendencies modified by your whole chart — educational, not predictive, and not a substitute for a personal reading.

Your Venus’s dignity and motion here
Venus in the houses — — exalted in Pisces, deepest at 27 degrees, Venus gives this house its most generous form, where affection is offered rather than negotiated. In its own Taurus or Libra it is steady and socially fortunate, while debilitation in Virgo turns it critical of the very partner it wants, and the fault-finding rather than the feeling is what strains the marriage. Because Venus never travels far from the Sun, combustion stays a live possibility here, and a Venus retrograde at birth — roughly seven charts in a hundred — often marks a second look at an old attachment before commitment settles.
Venus in the other houses
Remedies for this placement
For a 7th-house Venus the tradition works on the relationship rather than on the planet: Friday devotion, and conduct kept clean inside the bond. These are devotional and behavioural practices, shared for their traditional and educational value — not mechanical fixes, not guarantees, and no gemstone is advised here.
Friday devotion to Lakshmi
Worship of Lakshmi on Fridays, with the Venus beej mantra "Om Draam Dreem Draum Sah Shukraya Namah" chanted with regularity. The traditional giving for the day is white cloth, rice, curd, sugar or perfume; where a marriage exists, the tradition suggests offering it in the spouse's name.
Keep the bond's small courtesies
Venus in the house of the other answers to conduct more than to ritual. Keep the promises made to a partner, settle a disagreement before the day ends, and decide the shared things — money, guests, time — together rather than by assumption.
Shared for educational purposes only. Diamond (heera) is the traditional Venus gemstone, but gemstones act strongly and are cautioned even within the tradition — never wear one without a full chart reading. Treat every remedy as supportive practice offered in the right spirit, not a guaranteed lever.
All Venus remedies on the Venus hubTransit vs natal Venus
This page reads Venus's natal position in the 7th — where it stood at your birth, which does not change. Venus in transit is a different thing: at full direct speed it crosses a sign in a little over three weeks, nearer a month on average, and it can hold one sign for up to about four months when it stations and turns retrograde there. Its passage through your own 7th is a short, repeating season, not a life theme. Different again is the Venus mahadasha, twenty years long — the longest of the nine — whose timing the dasha page works out for you.
Check the combust planets in your chartFrequently asked
The marriage and partnership questions this placement raises, answered plainly.
Q: Is Venus in the 7th house good or bad for marriage?
Both readings exist in the tradition, and Venus's own condition decides which one a chart follows. Saravali describes a beautiful spouse, wealth and a household free of quarrels; Phaladeepika keeps the good wife and the wealth but adds intrigue and the risk of loss. Strength is the deciding factor. Venus exalted in Pisces, at home in Taurus or Libra, or forming Malavya Yoga here leans to the first reading; debilitated in Virgo, combust, or squeezed by Mars or Rahu, it leans to the second; Saturn's contact usually reads as delay rather than damage, since Saturn is Venus's friend. Neither reading is a verdict on a marriage — the 7th lord, the Moon and the navamsha all get a vote.
Q: Does "karako bhava nashaya" mean Venus in the 7th house spoils marriage?
No. "Karako bhava nashaya" — the idea that a significator placed in its own house damages that house — is a later rule of thumb of disputed origin, and it appears nowhere in Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra. Classical practice weighs it only when the karaka is weak: debilitated, combust, badly aspected or in an enemy's sign. A strong Venus in the 7th house is read by its dignity instead, which is why Saravali can call the same placement fortunate.
Q: What kind of spouse does Venus in the 7th house give?
The type is Venus's to describe, but how that description lands depends on Venus's dignity, which your own chart decides rather than the placement alone. Exalted in Pisces, or at home in Taurus or Libra, the classical wording runs generous: a cultured, steady, open-handed partner, easy in company, with the household's ease improving once the marriage is made. Debilitated in Virgo, or close enough to the Sun to be combust, the same seat reads quieter and sharper — a union formed without much ceremony, or a partner judged severely once the first appeal has worn thin, the attraction having run ahead of the fit. Either way a placement indicates a type, never a person; the 7th lord, the Moon and the navamsha carry the detail.
Q: Does Venus in the 7th house form Malavya Yoga?
It can. The 7th is a kendra, so Malavya Yoga — one of the five Pancha Mahapurusha yogas — forms when Venus stands here in Taurus, Libra or Pisces. Counted from the ascendant, that means an Aries ascendant with Venus in Libra, a Scorpio ascendant with Venus in Taurus, and a Virgo ascendant with Venus exalted in Pisces; the table above marks your row. The yoga indicates strength — refinement, comfort and a graceful public presence — and is still read alongside the rest of the chart.
Q: Does Venus in the 7th house cause affairs or a second marriage?
Not on its own. The much-quoted line in Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra about the native being exceedingly libidinous points to a strong appetite for pleasure and company, not to a betrayal already decided; the same appetite, with Venus well placed, goes into art, hospitality and a warm household. Classical readings for intrigue or a second union want several testimonies agreeing — an afflicted Venus, a damaged 7th lord, malefics occupying the 7th, and support for it in the navamsha. One placement is a note on restraint, not a forecast.
