Teej names a set of women’s vrats kept through the monsoon in honour of Shiva and Parvati — days of fasting, mehndi, shringar and prayers for a happy married life. The three main ones fall on the Tritiya (‘teej’) of successive fortnights, each with its own character.
In 2026 the season runs from Hariyali Teej on 15 August, through Kajari Teej on 31 August, to Hartalika Teej on 14 September. Below is each Teej at a glance, how they differ, and links to the full guides.

One season, three vrats
All three Teejes honour Parvati’s devotion to Shiva, but they differ in tithi, mood and severity. Hariyali Teej, on the Shukla Tritiya of Shravan, is the green, joyful Teej of swings and monsoon songs. Kajari Teej, on the Krishna Tritiya of Bhadrapada, is a folk Teej of Neem worship and kajari singing, strong in the Vindhya and Bundelkhand regions. Hartalika Teej, on the Shukla Tritiya of Bhadrapada, is the strictest — a nirjala fast with an evening pradosh puja of hand-made sand idols and the reading of the Hartalika katha. Where the fast falls on your health or circumstances, families keep a phalahar fast instead; follow your own tradition and, where needed, medical advice.
